Frequently asked questions
Does installing an air-source heat pump need a permit?
It depends on the building and the location. If the outdoor unit changes the building's appearance, it counts as a conversion under the Building Code and generally needs a design and a building notice. Installing one on the façade of an apartment building also requires the co-owners' consent. Noise towards the neighbours and the requirements of heritage and special character areas also need to be considered. Your project manager checks your case.
What happens if a technical system has not been legalised?
It may prevent you from getting an occupancy permit, or a building permit for a later conversion, and it can raise questions when you sell or apply for a mortgage.
