Frequently asked questions
Can I clean the chimney myself?
In a detached house, summer house, garden house or farm building, the owner may clean the heating system themselves, but at least once every five years it must be done by a certified chimney sweep, who issues a certificate. In other buildings, cleaning is always done by a certified chimney sweep.
What is the difference between a chimney sweeping certificate and an expert assessment of a heating appliance?
The certificate confirms that the heating system has been cleaned and checked. An expert assessment evaluates whether the heating appliance and chimney comply with fire safety requirements when documents are missing or there are doubts about safety. An occupancy permit may require both.
What happens if the certificate shows defects?
The defects must be fixed (e.g. with the help of a stove-builder or master chimney sweep) and, if needed, a new check ordered. The LUBA24 project manager arranges this too.
